Our first adventure finding out about computation was on a rainy day. Fernando suggested we find out some interesting facts about ciphers. We’ve turned it into a real book that is actually going to be published! We are going to put her some more stuff that goes with it, including instructions of how to make your own cipher machines.
Ciphers are just a way to keep messages secret. You scramble your message and the person you send it to is the only person who knows the secret that unscrambles it again.
My favourite thing we found out about was making cipher wheels.
I liked the Ancient Greek invention called a Scytale.
I worked out how to write programs to encrypt and decrypt simple ciphers.
I like the fact that ciphers are basically word puzzles. I’m going to create some more for you..
I like the fact that ciphers are all about mathematical patterns being used in a way that is really useful.
There is a quiz about ciphers in the book, but we are going to create more for you we hope.
